SNIA India Expands Channel Initiatives

SNIA has geared up to spread storage education initiatives to help channel partners get certification and create a pool of storage networking experts.



As huge demand for trained storage professionals is increasing, SNIA India, the apex storage networking industry association, has geared up to spread storage education initiatives across country to help channel partners get certification and create a pool of storage networking experts. SNIA has tied up with educational institutes to run courses on storage networking with professional set up. The association has already trained over 500 plus professionals.

According to industry estimates available, the disk storage systems in India are growing at 68.8 percent CAGR from 4 petabytes in 2003 to 56 petabytes in 2008. Besides, the external storage market in India will hit US$ 300 million mark in terms of value and about 160,000 terabytes in terms of volume by 2010.

The reasons for this spurt in demand for storage and storage networks are obvious - SMEs are waking up to the need for storage; mobile telecom providers are deploying BSS, CRM and BI applications; disaster r

ecover and business continuity have become a must for enterprises, BPOs are flourishing and fuelling the demand further.

Speaking to itVARnews, Sharad Srivastava, Chairman, SNIA-India said, "The availability of trained storage networking professionals is not in accordance with the stupendous growth industry has witnessed in the recent past and this has been a serious hurdle for industry's growth in general. Seeing this challenge, SNIA has come forward with education initiatives that will offer course contents, facilitate trainer’s training, monitor quality of training program run, and facilitate the SNIA US conducted exam/certification to channel partners and other end users."
