Azamgarh IT Market Moves Ahead In Spite Of Hurdles

Apart from its cultural history, Azamgarh has an impressive IT market.

Founded around 1665 by Azam Khan Son of Bikramjit; Azamgarh has a rich cultural history behind it. It is situated in the western UP, near the river Tamsa. Apart from its cultural history, Azamgarh has an impressive IT market. But some hurdles are debarring its market from booming.

PCs, laptops, computer accessories are in good demand in this region. "We are extensively selling PCs and laptops. It is a fact that PCs sells more but the popularity of Laptops are also increasing day by day," told Pawan Kumar, a reseller in Azamgarh, to itVARnews.

"We sell brands like HP, Lenovo, Samsung, Intel, Compaq, etc. but monitors and hard disk of Samsung, PC and laptops of Compaq are in great demand."

Since last three years, the demand has been overwhelming but laptops have seen this surge since last year. Director of Micro Computers, B K Singh said, "Since last 15 years Azamgarh has witnessed presence of the IT market. But the market is going great since last t

hree years. We sell 15 PCs and three to five laptops in a month."

However, this market has its share of problems too. Service support is one of these problems. The resellers in the region depend on Lucknow-270 kilometers from Azamgarh for service support. As Singh said, "For service support we depend on Lucknow. Our customers don't understand this problem and they always complain of late service."

Another problem that this part is facing relates to the lack of awareness among consumers. "People are not aware of the new technologies; they do not buy any new product. Hence it takes time to sell any new product in the market. So the new products remain in the shop for a long time. Consumers have money, they love these technologies- attractive PCs, laptops- they want to spend on it, but because of lack of information they do not spend much on IT," commented Kumar.
