Srinagar Market Grows In Spite Of Service Related WoesPosted Saturday, August 18, 2007 By Manjari JunejaSrinagar, the capital of Jammu & Kashmir is an upcountry region that is experiencing good growth for its IT industry. However service is still an issue in this part of the country. Speaking to itVARnews, Proprietor, P.S. Associates, Pravesh said, "The IT market is enjoying a growth of 40-50 % in this region. We are basically dealing in all the major brands like HP, Lenovo, and IBM. Srinagar is facing service support related issues as all the service centers are situated in Jammu and Chandigarh." Unlike some other cities of the country, Srinagar is witnessing a good demand for the assembled computers rather than branded ones. Adding to this Proprietor, Nice Computers, Anees Taploo said, "In Srinagar, assembled computers are in demand. From total number of PCs sold, 85% are from assembled category and the rest are branded. There is no corporate market as such but we are targeting more on end users. Our annual turn over is one crore but we hope to increase it in the near future." Channel partners in Srinagar are waiting for terrorism to get over so that they can focus completely on business. Sharing his views CEO, Genises Technology, Lone Javed said, "The IT market is growing rapidly in Srinagar. We are experiencing a growth rate of 10-20% per month. The lifestyle products especially pen drives and computers are very much in demand in this region. Our company is basically focusing on defense and government sectors, as we earn a lot of business from these two segments. Overall, we have three branches in the city." In spite of a growing IT industry, Srinagar is facing service related issues due to unavailability of service centers. Moreover, the corporate sector has not raised its hand to reach Srinagar. |
