Itanagar Facing Service Issue

Posted on August, Tuesday 14, 2007 By Manjari Juneja

The capital Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar is not as prosperous as other part of the country in terms of IT boom.

Itanagar can be called as mini India situated at the foothills, 350 meters above sea level. The capital Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar is not as prosperous as other part of the country in terms of IT boom.

Itanagar is a small place with handful of population. The little demand IT has is all because of the government offices here.

Speaking to itVARnews, MD Arunachal Scientific Equipments, Shyam Sundar Dutta said, "Because of some government offices IT products have demand in this place. There are few corporates, but they directly deal through the distributors of Kolkata. Our business prospers only because of the government segment in Itanagar."

When asked whether there is a demand from the end user segment, Dutta said, "People are educated, but the problem is that they are not conscious about the products. We have to make them understand about the new products in the market."

Elucidating on the reasons for IT being still in a nascent stage

in Itanagar, MD, North- East Enterprises, K. L. Ghilani, said, “Itanagar is a remote place. So transportation problem is the key issue of this region. For most of the transaction we have to depend on Guwahati so business is stagnated in this region."

He even said that the retailers in Itanagar depend almost 90 percent on Guwahati for the IT business. When IT growth is accelerating smoothly at every corner, Itanagar is deprived of it. There are several questions unanswered. Why retailers in this beautiful valley depends on government sectors for the IT transaction. Why the corporates don’t depend on Itanagar for the IT products.
