Giving details about the market scenario to itVARnews, Proprietor, Tripathi Associates, Sanjay Tripathi commented, "Even some times ago assembled computer was the unchallenged king in the market. But things are changing. Waves of the major markets can be felt here also. Now the balance is tilted towards branded market."

The upcountry region of Satna is becoming a hot destination for corporate houses. There are several big players here like Coal India and NTPC besides several cement manufacturing units. So, this positive scenario has helped IT market a lot.

According to Partner, Katare Computerland, Manoj Katare, "Due to the presence of industrial houses, level of brand awareness for IT products is quite satisfactory. Branded computers rule almost 60 percent of the market. Sale of laptops is on the rise. Around 40

percent of the total computer sale per month consists of laptops."

But to make the branded computer- the unchallenged king, service support should be improved. There are franchisee service centers of some brands like Wipro, TVS-E, and Epson. But this is not the case for most of the major brands. Katare informed that for service related issues the market has to depend on Jabalpur market.

Proprietor, Computer World, G.P. Singh commented, "We have our own team of service engineers. To increase the market share of branded computers companies should think seriously to open service centers here."

But there are some positive points in the service related issues. Tripathi informed, "With the help of company's toll-free number, service help reaches within 48 hours. So, this problem can be alleviated to some extent."

There is another major problem that plugs Satna. There is no proper platform to showcase the products. All the Proprietors complained that as there is

no IT fair being held in Satna, the scope of awareness campaign is limited. They also argued in favour of establishing an IT body here.

With transaction of time new opportunities are arriving. Though Satna has not shown much interest in MP3 players, other lifestyle products like speakers and pen drives are getting customers here. Pen drives from Transcend, Umax and Kingston; speakers from Intex, and Creative have the highest demand here.

Singh informed, "Education level in Satna is on the rise. Satna is going to witness its first engineering college very shortly. Once service related issues are solved and a proper platform is created, there will be a tremendous boost in the market."
