Though a growing market, Chhindwara has little room for branded PC.

Situated at a major road and rail junction, Chhindwara is heavily engaged in cotton trade and coal shipping. Cotton ginning and saw milling are the chief industries. Though a growing market, Chhindwara has little room for branded PC.

One of the major IT players in the upcountry region of Chhindwara Mastermind Technologies has witnessed handsome growth of around 50 percent this year. But assembled computers form almost 80 percent of its sold computers.

Speaking to itVARnews, Proprietor, Mastermind Technologies, Rohit Jhare, "It is true that price of branded PC is dropping. But the price of assembled computers is far less than that. Moreover, service is big issue here. So, assembled computers enjoy the upper hand here."

Service support continues to dog Chhindwara. It is a problem emphasized by Manoj Pandey, Proprietor, MP Sales & Services. Except LG there is no service centre of brands. "To provide service support we have appointed own service engineers.

The nearest ASP, Redington is around 130 k.m from here. The nearest major MP town Jabalpur is more than 220 k.m from here," remarked Pandey.

Home segment consists the main client base of IT market. Jatin Savla, Proprietor, Global Computers informed, "Home segment forms more than 60% of the market. The rest is divided between Govt, SOHO and SMB segment."

Rising education also forms a major part of the market. As put by Jhare, "Though there is little scope for professional education here, more and more private institutions here offering courses like BCA and MCA. So riding upon them computer sell is bound to rise."

HP printers enjoy the leading position in the printing segment here. Global Computer sells more than 20 HP printers per month. Lifestyle products like pen drives and speakers are on the rise here.

veryone asks for LCD monitors. That gives us reasons to cheer."

All the proprietors pointed out certain problems which should be solved to enjoy a better market.

They are---

· There is no IT Association here. A common body will be of immense help.
· Service centres should be set up here. Otherwise there is little hope for branded PC.
· There is no common platform to showcase the products and organize campaigns like IT Fair. This type of fair gives immense opportunities to spread awareness messages and introduce latest technologies.
· Customers want to buy products on credit. Though there are financial centre to provide finance, the lengthy process to obtain it discourages customers.
