EMC Appoints Par Botes as CTO for Asia Pacific & Japan

EMC, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, announced the appointment of industry veteran Par Botes as the new chief technology officer (CTO) for the company’s Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) operations. Botes brings more than 17 years of IT experience to this role and will report directly Steven Leonard, President, EMC Asia Pacific & Japan and will also work closely with Jeff Nick, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for EMC Corporation.

In this newly created role, Botes will provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of information infrastructure solutions covering software and storage as the senior technologist for EMC in Asia Pacific and Japan. Botes’ responsibilities include driving EMC’s technology strategy in the APJ region and represent EMC in industry-standards groups and at industry forums.

“Technology leadership is a critical enabler for how EMC meets the needs of our customers as we rapidly grow our business in APJ market,� said President, EMC Asia Pacific and Japan, Steven Leonard. “Par’s strong track record and extensive global product-technology experience, will help us bring EMC’s information infrastructure message to customers across some of the most dynamic markets in the world.�

I look forward to being the conduit between EMC’s global research and innovative customers in APJ.�

Prior to joining EMC, Botes was director of Global Solutions Engineering for Symantec-VERITAS. He also spent ten years in Silicon Valley, California with SUN Microsystems and SUN Labs where he worked on high-end performance and system architecture. Botes began his career Data General in Sweden, which was later, acquired by EMC.

Botes has worked around the world and spent a number of years working with customers in the Asia Pacific and EMEA markets. Botes is a published author on the topics of e-mail archiving and business continuity and is named on 17 patents filed with the US Patent Office in the areas of storage, clustering, information security and data protection.
