Ingram launches online service for VARs in North America

Posted on June, Tuesday 07, 2005 By News Desk

Ingram has launched the Ingram Micro Outlet in North America, an online service where resellers can trade-in used, working technology products in exchange for Ingram Micro credit.

Leading technology distributor, Ingram Micro Inc has launched the Ingram Micro Outlet in North America, an online service where resellers can trade-in used, working technology products in exchange for Ingram Micro credit. Already established at Ingram Micro in Canada, this free service provides VARs a way to initiate the refresh cycle and an environmentally friendly solution for their clients' old technology equipment.

Talking about the new service, Justin Crotty, vice president of Channel Marketing for Ingram Micro North America said, “We see this turn-key trade-in program as a huge opportunity for VARs. They now have a convenient way to ignite the refresh cycle by helping customers easily dispose of outdated technology. They will also be able to realize the return quickly, with most receiving a credit memo directly applied to their account within 14 days from the time they shipped the old product back to us."

Ingram Micro Outlet was developed to help address the growi

ng problem of e-waste, while providing VARs with an easy-to-use tool. This service was launched with e-Bay, as part of its e-Bay Rethink Initiative.

This brings together technology companies, government agencies, environmental groups and millions of eBay users to address the e-waste problem. The resellers need to register and log-in at the trade-in site where they can get an instant quote after selecting a category. They can then ship the items to the Ingram Micro trade in warehouse and post receipt of the product Ingram will issue a credit note to the resellers account, which they can then retrieve.

Currently, working desktops, laptops, LCD flat panel monitors, mobile phones, PDAs, digital cameras and home audio receives are eligible for trade- in, and Ingram Micro plans to add additional product categories in the future.
