Canon India has launched the PowerShot A510, a latest addition to the popular PowerShot series. It will be available in stores by end of February. It is the first 3-MP, 4x-optical zoom camera from Canon.

The PowerShot A510 is 3.2-Megapixel camera and comes equipped with a fully retractable 4x optical zoom lens and a 35x140mm focal length. It features eight special scene modes and a DIGIC imaging processor. The DIGIC imaging processor helps reproduce high-definition images with natural, lifelike colors. It enables faster camera startup and recording times.

The unique feature about A510 is that it has manual modes - manual shutter and apertures settings - 20 automatic shooting modes and eight special scene modes. The camera has been designed to work with only two batteries

, thus making the size of the camera smaller. The camera accepts SD card and not the compact flash card, which again complements the smaller size of the card, the company stated.

The 3.2-megapixel CCD image sensor captures high-definition images of up to 2048 x 1536 pixels - large enough to print photos on A4 enlargements. The nine-point AiAF system automatically identifies the subject within the frame, and adjusts the camera's focus for each picture taken. It allows a three-minute video recording. An expanded self-timer function includes a custom mode that allows presetting the shutter release delay from 0-10 seconds, and the number of shots from 1-10.

Price: Yet to be announced.

A good coverage of the features of Canon Powershot A510. Sony Cybershot series, in my opinion will give Canon some serious competition in terms of price and features.
