AMD to launch version of Core-Duo technology

Posted on April, Thursday 06, 2006 By News Desk

As its answer to Core-Duo technology, semiconductor giant, AMD is soon going to unveil Turion X2 64 processor.

On May 9, 2006, AMD, the semi conductor manufacturer will launch Turion X2 64 processor. What has been placed as its response to Core-Duo technology, this will be dual core version of AMD's existing line of CPUs. Products featuring the new chips are expected to go on sales soon after launch.

Clock speeds of Turion X2 64 are expected to start at 1.6GHz with top speed of 2.2GHz. Like current generation Turion chips, the new processors will offer 64-bit software support and are expected to feature 2MB of L2 cache. The launch comes late as Intel’s Core Duo hit the market a while back and products with the Core-Duo platform have been out for a while.

Funnily enough, Intel has done to AMD what was done to it in the desktop segment where AMD launched ahead of Intel with 64-bit software support, dual-core processors and low costs.
