CeBIT showcases a plethora of gizmos

Posted on March, Wednesday 29, 2006 By News Desk (outsources)

Drive the latest Universal Serial Bus.

No CeBIT is complete without a parade of the latest gizmos. The annual high-tech fair this year displayed a range of new wares from over 6,000 companies. Hot in the lineup were a range of innovative storage devices like USB and memory sticks.

Sony Ericsson introduced the Memory Stick Micro or M2 at CeBIT. It measures 0.6 by 0.5 inch and is 0.05 inch thin. The storage will be used in mobile phones and other mobile devices where every inch of space is important.

White Lake of the Netherlands has showcased a thumb-sized USB memory stick made of 14-carat gold, appointed with five polished diamonds. The glitzy memory stick comes with up to 2GB of memory, and can be coated in either 14 or 18 carat gold. Pricing varies depending on whether the customer needs the full 18 carats of gold, or if they opt for the sparkly version.

Memory Solutions has unleashed its Memdrive Premium edition thumb drives that are capable of reading data at over 30 megabytes per second. The USB

2.0 standard seems to max out at about 35 MB/s. Memdrive Premium edition thumb drives will be hitting the market this June.

Just when you thought USB drives were as small as they could get, along comes the ATP Electronics Petito USB 2.0 drive that gives new meaning to the word "tiny". To be offered in capacities up to a gigabyte, the thing even has a hook on the top, where you could thread a chain through and wear it as a necklace. With its powdered gold metallic finish, it looks just fashionable enough to complement almost any outfit.

Iocell of Korea release the world’s largest flash drive, a 16GB version of the company’s Celldisk. The drive is the same size as other flash drives, though the drive is USB 2.0 compliant.
