Taiwan PC-maker Acer sees China revenue doubling this year

Posted on March, Wednesday 08, 2006 By News Desk

Acer expects to become the third-largest vendor of notebook computers by market share in China.

Acer expects to sell 110,000 notebook computers in China in the first quarter, up from 57,000 in the fourth quarter, according to unnamed sources cited by the paper.
Acer sold 23,000 notebook computers in China in the third quarter of 2005, and 24,700 in the second quarter, the paper said.
Taiwan's Acer overtook Japan's Toshiba Corp. (6502.TO) to become the world's third-largest supplier of notebook computers by market share in the fourth quarter, after Dell Inc. (DELL), and Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ).
The company derives about 60% of its total revenue from the European market, but it plans to reduce Europe's sales to 50% and increase its revenue from the Asia-Pacific region, the U.S., and Greater China to 17% each within two years, the paper cited Wang as saying.
Acer expects to become the third-largest vendor of notebook computers by market share in China in the second half, and to ship 11 million notebook computers in 2006, the paper quoted Wang as saying.
Acer is

currently fourth in China, behind Lenovo Group Ltd. (0992.HK), Hewlett-Packard, and Dell, according to the paper.
Acer said in January its unaudited 2005 consolidated revenue totaled NT$316.8 billion, up 41% from NT$225.0 billion in 2004.
