India’s Egovernance on a Challenging Turf

Posted on January, Tuesday 24, 2012 By itVAR News Network

There are a lot of Challenges that lie ahead for India’s E-Governance Plans.

Even though, there are many egovernance models and applications that are being developed and deployed by various states in India, there is a lot of effort which is needed in order to develop a sustainable model towards egovernance applications and platforms.

And hence, the governments both –the Union and the states must make earnest efforts to complete the daunting, but formidable task of quicker and effective E-government programs by making a policy choice in favour of computerization to overcome radically, even if it requires huge investments for the purchase of hardware and software

And experts close to the industry feel that serious efforts would be required in order to mobilize resources for this difficult job. One way to deal with the situation could be that governments enter into arrangements for leasing of computers and other IT related hardware and even software. This would reduce initial heavy capital investments from the government side.

Inter-department connectivity is another big issue. This involves, establishing a complete and seamless connectivity between various ministries and departments so that transfer of files and papers could be done through Internet thereby choosing efficient speed as an alternative to manual labour at different levels.

To make this really effective, there is an urgent need to make databases of various departments compatible with different departments. And hence, interoperability of e- governance projects is of critical importance for the benefit of the citizens.

Localization of content holds a big key towards the success of egovernance related projects and applications. Providing information to the public in a language that they understand and are comfortable with, is very important and critical to the success of any project.
