With the ongoing telecom boom in the country, Internet penetration in India has gone up a lot. It still, however, remains off the radar for a large number of people in tier II and tier III cities where metropolitan sophistication is yet to settle in. However, it is moving up and as of today, the Internet penetration currently stands at 10 Internet users per 100 people in India.
This is primarily driven by the fact that today there are a lot more convergence friendly devices in the country. These devices ruining on next generation networks are driving the Internet penetration to the next level. And what is most important is the fact that success comes when first-time users taste the potential of the Internet and foray into a hitherto unknown world, full of possibilities.
On the other hand, the road towards Internet literacy has always been a difficult ride, full of challenges. However, technology has been a great leveler on providing connectivity to the rural areas as well as converged devices which have helped reach out to the large number of people at a minimum added cost. With the advent of improved mobile networks and their data cards — including 3G connections, faster connectivity has been possible in not only the big cities but also on the smaller locations of the country today.
