BI Applications, gathering momentum and analysis for Enterprise

Posted on November, Wednesday 23, 2011 By itVAR News Network

It is true that BI or business intelligence applications gather and analyze an enterprise raw data and provide business process insights that can be taken to increase competitive advantage for an enterprise.

ilitary Intelligence – an oxymoron.” Unless and until an enterprising CIO is an intelligent user and picks the right targets (insights that deliver value-add to the business), BI software gives you very little.

Experience has shown that those who use BI to quickly achieve a deeper understanding of their customers, their prospects, and their performance, and take actions accordingly, have a big ongoing and longer advantage in following up with subsequent revenue generation, generating spend efficiencies and effectiveness, and maintaining flexibility over those who don’t have these capabilities on hand.

However, the primary objective of the SMB should be more modest, because an SMB simply does not have access to the data mining experts and massive amounts of operational data that a large enterprise does. Analysis will be shallower, and use historical data less. To counteract this, the SMB must use more agility driven BI, and try to create a tighter link between the data analysis and the high-level decision-maker.

Analysis with BI Apps

The actual task of Business Intelligence (BI) application is the analysis of raw business data. The typical operation is a query on a massive database of business data, usually fed from existing operational systems like order entry or sales, manufacturing or production, and distribution or delivery. For the SMB, this means that existing systems must add fields of ‘extract, transform and load’ links to a central database that is strictly for data analysis only.

Almost all small or big businesses, SMB or not, have a wish list of data mining requirements that they would like to find out about their customers, their operations, and their suppliers, beyond what their existing data reports tell them. This is where an analysis driven business intelligence application can help the SMB enterprise.

Most importantly for the enterprise, the key is to show flexibility to the initial answers that an enterprise may get or may not be what they expect. Moving forward, cutting edge BI applications are set to help the enterprise move forward with their data analysis needs that will surely take them forward on the growth path.
