Citrix, NetApp, Rackspace and Logicalis Jointly Intros a \"Total Solution\" for Hosted Desktop Virtu

Posted on October, Tuesday 25, 2011 By itVAR News Network

Today it was announced that top four names in the IT industry are collaborating to offer an innovative service to APAC-based enterprises. Rackspace, Citrix, NetApp, and Logicalis have joined forces to bring customers a "total solution" for hosted desktop virtualization in Hong Kong and around the region.

"Desktop virtualization is an innovative IT technology, which allows users to remotely access their desktop data and applications from any handheld or portable device," said Jim Fagan, VP and Managing Director, Rackspace APAC. "Desktop virtualization improves business flexibility, promotes efficiency, and lowers costs, but what we found was there wasn't a perfect, unified solution for hosted desktop virtualization services, especially in Hong Kong, and so we set out to partner with some of the most trusted players in the IT world to bring a unified solution to the market."

In order to deliver the service, Rackspace will offer infrastructure services from its Hong Kong facility, Citrix will supply its next-generation XenDesktopâ software, NetApp will provide the storage to enable the provisioning, and Logicalis will manage front and back-end support.

According to IDC, the global market intelligence firm, there is already an uptick in desktop virtualization interest in the APAC region - with 16 percent of organizations stating that Virtual Desktop Infrastructure will be one of their top Data Center investments in 2011.

Benefits of hosted desktop virtualization includes:

Increased flexibility and business agility - Users are not limited by time or location. Businesses can quickly deliver IT to new employees, remote offices, or recently acquired company devices.

More simple and less expensive desktop management - Centralized delivery, management and control of virtual desktops can bring new levels of efficiency to an IT organization.

Lower capital investment (CAPEX) costs.
