Adding Value to WiMax Offering

Posted on September, Wednesday 07, 2011 By itVAR News Network

Today, there is a value that can easily be added to the overall offering of WiMax. In fact, there is a list of additional value added services that a WiMAX operator could consider offering to its set of customers. We are listing some examples for your consideration.

Wimax is fast gaining momentum owing to its flexibility and ease of use to reach out to unconnected areas and corners of a particular geography. However, operators must start looking at going beyond in order to funnel better prospects for themselves in the coming months.

Wi-Fi Backhaul

The WiMAX technology can be used as wireless backhaul to a Wi-Fi hotspot. And the resultant application can provide connectivity to Hotels, vacation resorts, schools and retail businesses for Wi-Fi hotspots with WiMAX backhaul. This type of offering allows an operator to attract different type of users of portable computers with built in Wi-Fi, without having to go for a WiMAX CPE.

Entertainment Download

Moving forward, WiMAX operators should consider building value added services driven SLAs that combine broadband access with a certain number of music and video downloads per month. This type of entertainment driven download capabilities can ensure better APRU for the operators on the long run.

Additionally, these types of services will provide the consumer flexibility of choice while offering a chance to experiment with value added service. At the same time, the operator would be able to establish long lasting and content focused relationships with content providers where it would purchase content wholesale and provide it to its end users.

CPE’s Galore

One of the most important elements of an operator business case process is to establish the various types of subscriber stations or WiMAX terminals used with the various SLAs. We are presenting a list that illustrates some of the options that can be taken up.
• Fixed CPEs (indoor and outdoor)
• Portable CPEs’
• Mobile CPEs
• WiMAX PC Cards
• WiMAX cards Integrated in laptops
