United Bank of India has selected Cisco and Wipro to deploy WAN Optimization Solution for the Bank’s operations in India.
Heralding a new era of next-generation banking communications solutions for its enterprise small businesses and enterprise customers, Cisco has been selected by United Bank of India, one of India’s public sector banks, in order to enable WAN optimization solution across all of its 1,600 plus branches spread all across the length and breadth of the nation.
This WAN Optimisation solution, to be deployed by Wipro, is amongst the largest globally, for any public sector banking organisation. Underscoring its transformative role, the network will help enable UBI's vision of providing the benefits of banking to rural and agricultural economies, and to India's burgeoning small and medium-sized enterprise sector.
This WAN Optimization solution will entail 1,600 plus Cisco Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) devices, Cisco's comprehensive WAN optimization solution, in addition to application accelerators for the data centre and disaster recovery sites for the Bank’s operations in India.
When implemented to its full potential, this WAN optimization solution by Cisco is set to translate towards better benefits at the remote locations of the bank. It will help the bank in terms of better collaboration and inter-branch financial communications. Cisco's video capabilities are also likely to bring down travel costs for the bank as well.
Working towards doing more with less for the bank, the WAN driven optimisation solution will address the challenges of maintaining and increasing productivity levels at UBI's remote branch locations in India. The solution will help branches in terms of accelerating application traffic over the WAN by providing local hosting of branch-office IT services, allowing IT departments to centralize applications and storage in the data centre. This will translate towards better productivity levels for the bank’s enterprise customers in India.
With the help of maintaining local area network (LAN)-like application performance over the WAN and reducing the branch-office device requirement, the solution is expected to help increase employee productivity, decrease satellite latency, and at the same time provide much needed cost savings in branch server hardware, maintenance and administration costs. As the above mentioned savings related results will be quite visible, moving forward, this kind of WAN optimization is likely to pick up with other public sector banking organizations in India as well.
