With diverse platforms opening up and businesses being run while executives are on the go, the role of mobility solutions have definitely increased. In a brief chit chat with ITPV, Daya Prakash,
Head-IT (CIO), LG Electronics throws light on the growing mobility solution requirement and his relentless efforts for cost optimization within the processes of LG.
What are the top technology trends you see in the industry?
24/7 connectivity and the leverage on cloud while keeping the environment green and secured, is what guides the industry today. Mobility solutions offer companies the flexibility, and present a wealth of sales and support opportunities for the client. The solutions in place, the next target is to make any establishment green. This in turn extends the usage of cloud and virtualization. With the change in the tech environment there is an increasing sense of insecurity creeping in. Once of the most popular way to avoid any untoward action is that vendors are increasingly introducing RFID tags due to security reasons.
As an IT head, what is the biggest challenge that you face?
Firstly, it would be to keep up the pace with the business. There is a lot of dynamism in business today and to be able to work closely with everyone to retain the competitive advantage is the biggest challenge. In addition to this the adoptions of new technologies such as Social Networking and Mobility solution within the framework of Governance, Risk and compliance is another challenge.
What are your top three priorities at this time? And, what keeps you up in the night?
Currently my priority is to ensure a good Supply Chain, Customer Relationship Management and Business Intelligence solutions. I’m mostly concerned with finding Innovative ways of doing things efficiently and attaining & retaining the competitive edge.
How do you ensure that IT plans, projects and objectives are aligned with the company’s business goals and objectives?
IT always plays the strategic role in the organization and is generally involved in the decision making from conceptualization stage.
Do you participate in important product and service offering planning for LG? If yes, how is that participation conducted?
Yes and this is conducted through regular meetings as IT is involved in right from planning stage itself.
Describe the IT governance process on your organization.
We follow a strict governance process where the IT controls are audited by the internal audit team every quarter and bi annually it is done by the statutory auditors.
What are the most important technologies deployed in your IT environment?
The various solutions ranging from Enterprise Resource Planning, SCP, CRM, MES Manufacturing Execution System, Business Intelligence and Virtualization. Apart from that, there are many areas we are currently investing in and the thrust is on Cost optimization.
In what ways is LG coping with issues related to security and carbon emission?
We have a well defined Security policy and have been investing continuously in this domain also regarding carbon emission we have undertaken few projects such as virtualization & consolidation and shift from CRT to LCD technology, Network computers and Datacenter Greening.
Does the organization develop any of its own hardware and or software solutions? If yes, which one and for what reasons did the organization determine that it was necessary to develop instead of purchase?
We are the manufacturers of Network Monitors, Monitors etc. We have a group company which caters to our software solution needs.
