Ethernet is fast becoming the communication platform of choice within the small and big enterprise community to drive Next Generation Application adoption.
Keeping in mind the importance of Ethernet for the operator as well as the enterprise community, Metro Ethernet Forum or MEF organized a twin city seminar series in Mumbai and Bangalore on 18th January and 20th January, 2011. These seminars became a platform to deliberate and discuss the possibilities that Ethernet technology holds and also provided a glimpse of the roadmap for operators when it comes to Ethernet adoption.
Talking about Ethernets role in cloud computing, Sethumadhavan Srinivasan, Director, Strategy&Marketing, Huawei India said that Ethernet based networks can tackle the challenges of cloud computing.

ransport layer. Ethernet can solve these challenges with the help of delivering the right convergence for transport network, he adds on.
Addressing the MEF seminar, Prasenjit Dey, Product Manager, WAN Ethernet Services, Tata Communications said it is all about flexibility at the hands of end customers. Ethernet delivers that much needed flexibility for enterprises. With Ethernet you can scale up as you grow. Whether it is a small SMB or a big enterprise, the world over, it is Ethernet that is bringing the element of comfort factor within the network as far as the end customers are concerned, he explained.
Ravi Pandey, Senior Research Analyst ICT, Frost & Sullivan highlighted that the Indian telecom market had 68 percent of its consumers coming through the retail channel, while enterprise and wholesale constituted for 29 percent and 3 percent respectively.
