NEC Launches Flexible Platform for Backhaul

Posted on September, Thursday 02, 2010 By ITVarNews Network

NEC designs new series of products to help operators reclaim the business case for mobile broadband.

NEC Corporation announced the launch of its iPASOLINK platform, a new breed of product and the key building block in the transformation of backhaul networks for LTE. The modular, flexible, all-in-one converged design of iPASOLINK - incorporating packet, microwave and optical technologies - ensures network operators can deploy high-performance, next-generation networks without incurring unnecessary costs.

\\\"The NEC iPASOLINK is a game changer: it is designed to support the evolution from today\\\'s hybrid TDM and Ethernet backhaul towards the full IP transport required by LTE, while significantly reducing the cost of ownership thanks to its all-in-one converged design,\\\" said Hiroyasu Ishii, General Manager of the Global Network Division, Global Carrier Solutions Operations Unit, NEC Corporation.

Mr. Ishii continued, \\\"Its flexible modular architecture allows operators to optimize their network strategies and invest gradually and in step with actual

service and traffic demands. This design, combined with NEC\\\'s unparalleled engineering reliability and simple installation, ensures iPASOLINK delivers outstanding value to operators.\\\"

At the core of the iPASOLINK platform is a powerful traffic switch which delivers efficient aggregation, advanced Quality of Service (QoS) features and low latency. In addition, iPASOLINK incorporates NEC\\\'s market-leading, high-capacity microwave transmission technology, which is capable of large capacity delivery of gigabits-per-second throughputs using high modulations and XPIC. In future releases, iPASOLINK will support multiple 10Gbps optical WDM interfaces.

The technical features of iPASOLINK are delivered on a highly configurable platform. Hardware functionality can be tailored to each network application with the use of plug-and-play modules, while advanced traffic management features can be added through non-service-affecting, pay-as-you-grow software upgra

des.

The NEC iPASOLINK is inspired by the NEC vision of \\\"Intelligent Converged Backhaul,\\\" first announced at the Mobile World Congress 2010. The first products will be delivered and installed in networks around the world from September 2010, following a period of extensive customer consultation and trials.
