Microsoft Research to Conduct Workshop on WWT in India

Microsoft Research will conduct its maiden workshop in India on the WorldWide Telescope (WWT) – a virtual telescope that is designed to enhance your experience in astronomical research, science education and entertainment.

Microsoft Research will conduct its maiden workshop in India on the WorldWide Telescope (WWT) a virtual telescope that is designed to enhance your experience in astronomical research, science education and entertainment. The workshop will take place on September 2-3, 2010 in Bangalore at the Satish Dhawan Auditorium, Indian Institute of Science while on September 4, 2010 in Pune at the IUCAA auditorium, Pune University Campus. Microsoft Research is co-hosting the workshop with the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA). The workshop is free for all participants. During the workshop the latest versions and solutions of WWT will be presented. The workshop will also provide a hands-on environment to help new users with the WWT. The researchers are expected to share their experiences of WWT-based research including connections with the Virtual Observatory and education colla

borations worldwide, and also look to learn for future improvements to WWT. Microsoft has taken some of the best images from the various satellites and telescopes of the world and woven them seamlessly to produce comprehensive view of the universe. WWT looks to aggregate scientific data from major telescopes, observatories, and institutions and make temporal and multi-spectral studies available through a single, cohesive Internetbased portal.
