AMI Goes MAG with AndroidPosted Tuesday, January 19, 2010 By Priyanka BhattacharyaImagine a scenario where a your laptop becomes your mobile phone, even as you finish your data related work, and vice a versa where your mobile phone gives you access to all your data stored in your laptop. All this even as you do not have to change the configuration of your PC or your mobile device. This level of seamless device to device communication to improve productivity is what American Megatrends, the creator of BIOS and embedded solutions, is talking about. To enable this AMI has set up Mobile Applications Group within its current portfolio of specialising in PC hardware and firmware. The group will be based in its Chennai office. The new division will create solutions and embedded sets for original device manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers with customised solutions to keep up with the current buzz in the Android and Windows Mobile platforms. Our vision is that users can work on say the Windows platform, even as they double click on an icon, and start communicating over GoogleVoice without switching off one OS to run the other, explained Sanjoy Maity, Vice President of Software Engineering, American Megatrends Inc. MAG will provide server based services to focus on mobile and internet solutions specifically for convergence devices. This will enable the convergence of Android based smart phones, netbooks, and other handheld devices. The initiative has been established with an aim to empower AMI India to cater to the clients and customers spread across the APAC region. Our team in India will be involved in developing solutions for Internet appliances, said Maity. In the first phase MAG will focus on developing solution around Android platform and then move to Windows Mobile. To begin with we will develop applications that will allow business executives maximise their productivity. We will look at business mail clients, seamless inter device communication for enterprise users. In fact our first set of solutions are ready and more will be out by Q3 2010, he further added. The company has already developed applications which will enable the OEMs to make devices where the two operating systems running the devices can talk. This year the company will focus on building pre-packaged enterprise application over Android that will make enterprise level mobility devices smarter and more useful. We will also look at creating solution where both Android and a PC OS can exist within the same device and users can shift from one to the other without logging off, Maity informed. In fact the focus on this evolved as AMI realised that there is an expected 85 percent increase in employees accessing enterprise applications through mobile devices (which are not just laptops) this year. Â We are creating applications so that your data can move with you. Now we have pre-packaged apps with Android which OEMs can use to make enterprise devices. We are really excited about this new set up as convergence of devices and ease of use will drive the growth for us," he concluded. Comment & Contribute
