Information is key driver for small organizations and while moving through the trough of the business, even small companies realized the meaning of securing the data. Ajay Verma, Director Channels, Symantec India explains that SMBs have emerged as growth fueling vertical for the company so much so that it has devised a complete business plan to meet the specific demands of this category.

According to Verma, the biggest challenge lies in educating the mass. Security is the next step in IT adoption. We will focus on making small enterprises understand the criticality of a secure infrastructure is the key, yet a challenge, he said.

There is a need to effectively and efficiently managed backups as data volumes grow. Data should protect through automated, event-driven backups. But the rate of adoption and increase in technology spend has been steadily increasing over some time which clearly indicates that SMBs need to address these issues to increase their competitiven

ess. In order to guard against these risks, growing businesses need more than simple antivirus solutions, multiple layers of protection, but without straining budgets, resources and schedules. All companies share the potential risk of having a data breach because of the actions of former employees.

Downturn an upturn:
The recent times have brought greater attention to protection of organizations most critical assets i.e. information. It has also led to a changed scenario on threat vectors and attacks are becoming directed increasingly at IP and identities. Across industry segments there has been enhanced understanding of this vulnerability and organizations have invested in strengthening their security posture. As stated earlier, this has been across segments, with pronounced adoption in segments where the information value is higher. SMB is a significant contributor to our revenues and we see continued strength in the same.
