Gujarat bandh evokes good responsePosted Thursday, May 17, 2007 By Manjari JunejaThe one-day statewide industry bandh to protest the ongoing Microsoft anti-piracy raids against dealers in Gujarat garnered a good response from the IT industry. Around 350 dealers from Baroda, Ahmedabad, Vapi, Valsa and Bharuch supported the initiative taken by Surat based South Gujarat Information Technologists Association (SITA). The association had called for an industry strike in the state on Wednesday to seek an early solution to the problems being faced by dealers because of anti-piracy raids. Speaking to itVARnews, President, SITA, Bharat Randheri said, "We received a good response from dealers in Gujarat. We want to thank them and assure them that we will always support them in such crisis.” “We are not against piracy but against the way Microsoft is working to stop it. Moreover, if they want to do business in India then they should change their prices and policies according to the Indian market. We are the one who are promoting their products in the market and if they will behave in such a rash manner with us then we will stop business with them.” The traders in Gujarat are demanding Microsoft to stop its dominating policy and spurious raids. The dealers also threatened that if Microsoft continued its monopoly then they will shift to some other operating software. They demanded Microsoft to come forward and educate the customers by organizing various campaigns and events. Randheri added, “We also had a discussion with other IT Associations in cities including Mumbai, Pune and Delhi to take this issue on a national level as not only us but dealers in other states are also facing the same problem” HOW DO YOU VIEW THE INITIATIVE TAKEN BY SITA? |
